PERSONAL ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES FOR THOSE GETTING BACK ON THEIR FEET

Sunshine Community’s mission is to help the houseless and those at risk to get on their feet by providing personal administration service, technology and advocacy services in coordination with the existing supportive services network.  Homelessness is one of the major challenges of our time. No community can claim to be welcoming, stable or prosperous when growing numbers of its citizens are left literally, out in the cold and in despair. Homelessness is a relentless tide distancing ever more people from the ‘American dream’ where equity and opportunity are available to everyone allowing the highest aspirations and goals to be achieved. Neglecting or ignoring the homelessness crisis is a threat to everyone’s well-being. Why? Because the problem is complex, and its negative consequences suffocate the potential for future prosperity. It is also indifferent to geographic boundaries, economic and social classes. Homelessness impacts the invisible line many of our fellow citizens and families confront between their daily struggle to maintain an acceptable standard of living and falling into hopeless poverty.

The stakes could not be higher, and action is urgently required.  Please help us meet our goals with your donation.

HOMELESSNESS AND DIGNITY

Homelessness is a growing national trauma that tragically impacts hundreds of thousands of Americans every day across communities. In 2024 in the U.S. over 750,000 – men, women, and children experienced homelessness. More concerning is between 2022 and 2024 the US homeless population increased by over 32% and this trends even higher in the future.

Homelessness is one of the major challenges of our time. Dignity: ‘The Last Domino’

One of the most critical yet often overlooked aspects of the homelessness crisis is the loss of dignity.

At its core, dignity is a fundamental human right enshrined within the promise of the U.S. Constitution. For many people of faith, dignity is central to their beliefs. It captures the inherent worth, value, and respect that all individuals deserve, regardless of their origins, background, or circumstances.

For the homeless, this fundamental human right is compromised and for many, it is the last tragic life ‘domino’ to fall. The daily struggle for necessities like food and shelter becomes a relentless battle that gradually erodes their self-worth. Homeless individuals are often marginalized and stigmatized, viewed through a dark lens of harsh judgment and prejudice. This perception not only dehumanizes them but also perpetuates a cycle of exclusion and deeper hopelessness.

Dignity once lost is extremely difficult to restore. Without it, the journey towards restoring hope and the full potential of an individual becomes ever more challenging and expensive. This is especially alarming for leaders working to strengthen and protect the future of our communities, who genuinely feel a sense of civic duty and shared responsibility to assist in practical ways.

“Human dignity has the same value for every person. When I trample on the dignity of others, I’m trampling on my own” - Pope Francis

Defending Dignity

The goal of Sunshine Community is to restore, preserve, and strengthen the core dignity of homeless citizens. We assist them in building self-reliance and strengthening personal responsibility. This is achieved through a range of essential services that empower people to better - help themselves.

Our services and support facilitate real opportunities for personal stability and future security through appropriate assistance, including the search for employment, allowing individuals to once again, flourish as productive members of the community.

Sunshine Community prioritizes the restoration of dignity in close partnership with government, charitable, faith-based groups, business, and volunteers who are dedicated towards solving the many inter-related aspects of the homelessness crisis.
